This oil pump has been working just outside of Victoria, Texas for as long as I can remember. I do not remember a time when it was not busy at work. It used to sit off the side of the road. Increased population and traffic brought the construction of a four lane highway. Fortunately, the pump is still there. A reminder that this is Texas oil country.
There are several slang names for these oil pumps. This is the equipment used to pull the oil from ground and send it to a desired storage area. Since the large head shaped object goes up and down...it has the nickname of grasshopper. It has also been called horsehead, pump jack, pumpin hose and I am sure that there are many more.
