Description
As a kid, I liked to wander. I lived with my grandparents and we spent the summers in a little cabin on the Sabine river in Louisiana. Actually, it was at the dam location. Wow, tons of memories. As an only child, I played by myself and like I said, I liked to wander. I was 8 or 9 and climbed down rocks to the river on the low side of the dam. Enchanted by everything, I decided to walk the rivers edge and see how far it traveled. Hours passed and it was too late to turn around. I continued to travel along. Long journey and story cut short; I saw light appear through the Louisiana pine forest that covered both side of the river. I made my way to the highway. God held my hand for quiet a walk down the highway; a turn to the right and then a second turn to the right. I walked on as the evening surrounded me and then I saw it....I was on the other side of the dam. I got to the concrete dam and began to walk across. There stood my grandmother. Nothing seemed to matter to her or me except; I had wandered my way home to her and safety. I was also told, do not ever do that again! I didn't.
If you have never been in the middle of the deep woods, it is dark. Towering trees and brush keep the sunlight at bay. A clearing gives you safe passage out of the shadows and darkness.
