Artist's Description
Turtle was sunbathing by the pond. Basking in the sun, these cold blooded animals regulate their body temperature. He/she was giving me the evil eye. A little known fact about me...I am one of the many who is fascinated by turtles. There are 300 different species. This is a hard shell turtle but there are soft shell turtles. They are known for their oval shaped shell. If frightened, they withdraw that bald head & legs quickly inside. Here, they just slide into the pond before you can blink. Oh, that shell is actually bone...about 50 bones. Don't we all love the story of the tortoise and the hare? And who wins? Oh yes! I used to pick them up on my way home and feed them lettuce (much to my Dad's dismay).

Fascinating information about turtles -- I never knew the shell was actually bone! He's got kind of a serious look to him -- yes the evil eye ~ I see it! Nice, fun catch, Ella! V
