The seed is the edible nut. Wonderful as a snack and in various recipes, such as pralines, candy and pecan pie. The pecan is included in state symbols of Alabama, Arkansas, California, Oklahoma, and Texas.

As a kid, we kids in the area would pick up pecans by the sackful. We would take them to local merchants and sell them. That was the way we earned money for the county fair.
