A successful day for this little one.
Two fledglings were in our backyard flowers. We have two birdbaths. The adult bluejays love to drink and bathe. May 1st was the day that the little ones were instructed to fly. We watched as this little bird walked the tree trunk. I kept thinking that he just wanted to go back home. Half way up and he would fall. Again and again it tried. I finally went into the backyard with my camera. Mom and Dad sent out the call to hide. Each little one found plants to hide under. They never moved. It was truly amazing. After a couple of visits to the backyard, I finally captured this little determined bird moving slowing upward on the tree trunk. After, so many failed attempts, I am happy to say this one made it onto a high branch. The other baby is sitting on our lawn chair on the back porch.
If is exciting to see the Mom and Dad diving and circling to protect their young. Today, I got to see and hear the parents instructing the little ones. It was so much fun. The male and female parents mate for life. They have been busy parents today.
