Description
Old Live Oak - Silent Witness: photography by Ella.
This photo was taken October 12, 2013.
Texas State Champion Live Oak since 1996.
The live oak is over 1000 years old and it is big. Most of the data was put on a plack in the later 90s. Stated the trunk circumference was 36 ft; crown 89 feet, height 44 feet. Newer studies project that the tree may be closer to 2000 years old. Crutches hold up a limb on the right. They have cable lines that run across the top to help support the weight of the limbs. Goose Island is close to Rockport, TX. A small town called Lamar was established in 1838 but union naval bombardment in 1865 started fires that destroyed the town. This oak survived that fire. It has survived 40 to 50 hurricanes, floods and droughts.
Purchase Old Live Oak - Silent Witness as print, framed print, canvas art, acrylic print, metal art, 5x7 greeting card(s) and phone case.

What a magnificent capture. The bw really highlights the texture and character of this old tree

Terrific conversion to bw. I like it better than the color one, which was also great. I already voted on your Chickadee, substituting this one. v/f
