Description
Holding It Together is a photograph of my spool of thread. The thread still sat on a hand crank small sewing maching that I used as a child. I began sewing with the machine when I was about five years old. I began to sew with scraps of material that the seamstress would throw on the floor as she worked. I began dancing ballet at a young age and all costumes were hand made. I made costumes for my dolls. A love of sewing and creating was born. The wooden spool of thread dates to the mid-to-late 1950s. The quilt square was given to me by my grandmother. These were the last squares that she made and never put the quilt together. Photograph is a reminder of the days, not so long ago, that we sewed our own clothes and made quilts to pile on the bed. Photo by Ella Kaye - copyright remain with the artist. God bless you and thank you for viewing my paintings and photography. Fine Art America watermark is removed at the time of purchase of prints or greeting cards.

very touching and i love the material. I sew if i can find the time on a 1950's Singer machine. It's the clunkiest machine I have ever used but it still works.

The contrast works well to bring out the textures in sharp detail. Your story is great. I too remember simpler times. Thanks for your support too.
